AHS Project Update: Center School Restoration - March 2025
Atkinson Historical Society has undertaken the restoration of Atkinson’s last one-room schoolhouse. To date we have raised over $105,000 through private donations and grants awards.
Last year AHS was busy with Hall & Parlor, the restoration contractor, to restore the schoolhouse. The following has been accomplished with the support of the community:
All interior walls have been removed
Original decorative tin ceiling exposed
Fir wood floors exposed
All exterior vinyl siding removed
Exterior east wall restored to its original appearance
All the windows originally to the building have been restored and reinstalled
Basement and attic infrastructure have been reinforced
Cloak room interior round wall work began
Last December, Atkinson Historical Society was awarded $54,725.00 from NH Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LChip). The grant is earmarked for the restoration of the exterior of the schoolhouse and the interior’s tin ceiling. An important aspect of this grant is that AHS must match the grant through fundraising. We need your support to continue and complete our restoration project.
Your donation will be applied to matching the LChip Grant.
